THE OPENER by Adrian Vega

"Thank you Adrian for creating this professional piece of magic and share it with our community. I used in my recent show called 'Flipar' and it was a great success"
- Jorge Blass

"Since I first got the trick from Adrian in 2018, I immediately put it in my show and there it has remained to this very day. I highly recommended The Opener"
- Scott Wells

When Adrian Vega performed THE OPENER he became the Champion of Card Magic that year. From that day, he performed this clever miracle all around the world "fooling" and blowing away the best magicians at FFFF, at FISM, at Magic Castle and audiences in professional shows.

They way they’re holding the card in the promo gives me “Just The Soul” vibes. Is the method similar?

I like this. The weakness for me knowing you can only have 5 outs, unless you're blessed (cursed?) with 52 fingers on one hand, is covered well by his great line, "there are 52 different cards in a deck, but only one card in my hand". I really like that. Simple, but effective (minor) reframing.

Would love to have a look at this. I currently use an incredible Mark Calabrese effect where you can produce any card under a spec's watch, or wherever, and you don't even need the suit before you load it, and it's great. These feel similar.

Anyway, looks good and I'd love to know if 'normies' ever track the narrow field of choices. Yet even then, I'm sure they're impressed. But we'd never know if polite folks think it. I used to think it doesn't matter, but Andy of a certain blog has opened my eyes to the reality from his focus groups.

If we assume they care, then how much? Does it matter in the trade off?

I like it, though. I suspect--and hope--the gimmick is fair and you don't have to be standing a hundred feet away or otherwise pray they don't see anything to raise suspicion. ("Hey dude, why is that card so thick?" Answering, "uh . . . your

mom

is thick" then high-fiving your buddy requires having a friend with you. I typically don't have friends, so...)

I think the reason I decided to pass on carrying this one is because it's only 3 outs (in each suit) instead of 5. I assumed it was 5 as well when I first saw this but was disappointed to find out that isn't the case here..

I like Adrian a lot, and LOVE the premise of this, but for $100 I was personally expecting a bit more.

And Constructo by Adrian Carratala. Similar revelation/gimmick elements just based on what I see from watching the trailers.

I think this is one of the greatest pieces of magic that has been realesed to the community on the last decade, easily.

The hand made quality of the construction of each one of the gimmicks, I have not seen equal, and it looks like a regular card even close, so do not worry about any thickness, or anything at all, the hand made quality of this is simply crazy.

Is offensively easy to perform, and the impact could not be stronger.

The routine is pure fire, and solid. I find the name funny, because for me, this is a closer. (When you open with this, I hope you have very solid material behind it The Magic Cafe Forums - THE OPENER by Adrian Vega (I used it in my recent show...it was a great success.-Jorge Blass) (34) ) I would have call it that, The Closer, or the Show Stopper, or The Oppenheimer of Magic or something like that. This is the atomic bomb of magic. And the nuclear, and whatever there are.

I would not change this for any Invisible Deck, or anything like that, unless under death threat. I see what you think of Constructo or Bogt, and those are great ideas on their own, but not to be compared with this (with all my respect).

I have seen Adrian fool more magicians with this, and explode their brains, likewise espectators brains while performing The Opener, than any other magician doing any other thing.

For me Adrian is one of the greatest out there, a brilliant professional, creator and performer, and The Opener might be his Opera Prima (until now). I personally believe that is the key for all of his succesfull career and awards, and they are too many and I am too lazy to mention all.

Believe me, you have a treasure here.

Hi Luke, if you are worry for that, worry no more, there is not only three outs The Magic Cafe Forums - THE OPENER by Adrian Vega (I used it in my recent show...it was a great success.-Jorge Blass) (43) and it does not really matter how much they are. Think what it is experience. Somebody say a numer , a folded card is shown, somebody name the card, and without doing anything. ANYTHING. The card matches. Is a dream effect, and everybody experience it like that The Magic Cafe Forums - THE OPENER by Adrian Vega (I used it in my recent show...it was a great success.-Jorge Blass) (44)

The number of outs is such important info to know before purchasing, as this gives a clear guide as to how much evoque is required.
I would be happy with 12 outs as the evoque can end after selection number one (as per On the Mark).

Just re-read the thread The Magic Cafe Forums - THE OPENER by Adrian Vega (I used it in my recent show...it was a great success.-Jorge Blass) (57) I think the 12 outs could have been better used if all the picture cards The Magic Cafe Forums - THE OPENER by Adrian Vega (I used it in my recent show...it was a great success.-Jorge Blass) (58)

It is taught in his Penguin lecture.

I saw this at another lecture of his years ago and love it. I put in the arts and crafts work to do it myself. I have to admit I'm a little bummed this is available. I figured I had this to myself since very few people would be willing to make this up on their own.

Yeah it looks like it was in his Penguin Lecture, which you had to make yourself, so you're paying for the gimmick.
I made it up myself as well, though it was tricky to do, years later I'm sure I can make it a bit better now.

Don't worry, the high price point will keep some people away from getting it.

I have no issues with the 3 outs instead of 5. Your wording helps to narrow the choices and the gag disarms them before you hit them with the magic.

My friend Adrian Vega has not his own account in the Café, so I ask him if he could explain a little bit more about your doubts, He sent this message:

Hi!

I had been performing this for around 10 years and it is one of my favorite effects, it is not because the method, it is for all the psychology behind it (I can promise you that the spectator remember the "best promise"), they forget the "force", because in this case doesn't work as a force, it is "just" a stupid joke, that I take advantage to create the effect on his minds. I study this with great magicians as Juan Tamariz, and he think the same "comet effect" is applied here, that he talk on his Rainbow book about memory.

So, for that reason I would like to share with you this thoughts as professional that I really performed this for all people around the world, I understand that in a video/trailer this psychology doesn't work as good, but even working on FFFF or Fism, this fooled a lot magicians because how works this effect on his mind and for me, this is the magic on this. The Magic Cafe Forums - THE OPENER by Adrian Vega (I used it in my recent show...it was a great success.-Jorge Blass) (71)

These gimmicks are handmade in Spain (with real Bicycle cards, not stickers, no fake, no China)

Anyway, I just wanted to share with your my thoughts of this and really hope to see you soon bro!! The Magic Cafe Forums - THE OPENER by Adrian Vega (I used it in my recent show...it was a great success.-Jorge Blass) (72)

Ok, I admit I haven't bought this, so I am making some assumptions based on the uncut performance on the demo video.
The spec is asked to choose a number between 1 and 5. Then any suit is named. On this basis, I would expect to receive 5 gimmicks (each with 4 Outs).
Luke Dancy says he is disappointed that he only received 3. I would be disappointed too.

Between 1 and 5 is 2, 3 or 4.

Obviously the 1

between

5 is the clue why you only need 3 outs per suit.

I find the whole thing unimpressive.
