Once again the magic bug has hit (I'll be 59 this year) and I'm revisiting some old friends, and making new ones. Including B'Wave, which I bought last week - yes, I practiced - and had with me on a weekend getaway with another couple. The conversation turned to my getting back into magic and they wanted to see something...my wife said "he bought 12 decks of cards!" I said, "let me go get some queens, I have one thing to show you..."
It's a great routine and great presentation from Max Maven as you all know. Except I flubbed the queen reveal showing the wrong suit to great laughter at my very real mistake. I recovered by saying "If I had predicted the correct queen, you'd see that it comes from a totally different deck. And I was so sure, that I didn't bring any other queens at all."
I then slowly turned the queen back over to reveal the correct suit and left them guessing but more importantly, entertained.
No, I will not be using that as the standard performance and yes, I will lightly mark the card edge!
Loving this forum...Happy Monday folks. DM

Thank you. I want to somewhat stay away from pick-a-card tricks and this fits the bill.

B'Wave is so great. I got 'bit by the bug' last fall, and picked it up shortly after. And it is BY FAR the trick that I've performed the most. I've done it in restaurants, on airplanes ... everywhere. The video instructions from Max Maven are worth the $20 alone.
Congrats on your performance and handling the situation! I hope that gives you confidence moving forward!

Yes it does. I have been collecting a lot of instruction lately, and need to put some things into practice. Like learning a convincing DL.

Is there a 'generally accepted' pronunciation for "B'Wave"?
I've seen the name for years, but oddly, never heard it pronounced, and for no reason at all I just pronounced it BEE-wave. Then the other day, I heard someone pronounce it with a single syllable, BWAVE.
For some reason, it struck me as very funny that I really had no idea how the trick was pronounced. Any voice of authority on this care to chime in?
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I just rewatched the video instructions for B'Wave Deluxe, and Max Maven is very explicit that it's pronounced "BWAVE" - that is, like "BRAVE" but with a W instead of an R. He even says "You can call it "Bee Wave" if you want... but you'd be wrong."
Sidenote:
I watched the instructions once, when I got it, and since then I've probably performed it 20-30 times (which is a lot for me, as a hobbyist).
If you have the trick, but haven't watched the instructions in a while, I *highly* suggest re-watching them. There are a lot of subtleties that I either missed the first time or forgot. Like, in B'Wave Deluxe anyway, the thickness of the borders as a way to orient yourself. Yeah, totally forgot about that, and just that detail alone would have helped @dmcknight.

That's hilarious Thanks for posting that, Chip! He had surely heard people pronouncing it incorrectly for a looong time

Just sharing another observation of the trick - in 20-30 performances, I've had:
- 100% of spectators choose red. I've yet to have someone choose black. Doesn't matter the gender, age, of the spectator.
- 80% of the time the spectator chooses the Queen of Hearts
I'm curious to hear what others have experienced.

The one time I've done it, she chose black. Go figure. (and I have the deluxe set and my edges are not offset so the pencil mark will help). And I totally agree about Max Maven's video instruction. It's so well done with a few nuggets of goodness.

I get about 85% red and 15% black on the first prompt. Then about 65% hearts to 35% diamonds on the second prompt. I've done it so many times, that I can sense who will say diamonds ahead of time.
I perform it slightly differently from Max (although his version is amazing as is). I end with a prediction which had been displayed in full view outlining, step by step, the audience's choices, in order. It gets wonderful reactions. I decided to put that method in print at Library.
