When I made these silly little hatching eggs, I thought they were pretty cute.

But, then I staged them for the photographs, had them sitting upright, and was about to snap a shot when one of them fell over. Seeing those skinny orange matchstick carrot legs and chicken feet pointing upwards just cracked me up.

My husband came into the room to see what was so funny.

He found my giggling to be slightly more amusing than the eggs.

He loves that I can find such joy in my creations and he did agree that this simple edible craft idea was pretty clever and even a bit funny.

It's hard for me not to smile and chuckle a little bit every time I look at these pictures.

The process of making these really helped bring me out of a haze over the weekend. Ever since arriving home from Florida, I've been fighting off whatever has had my husband down for two weeks now. It took a hold of me this past week despite my best efforts to stay healthy.

I really hate to take time to be sick. It's impossibly hard for me to stay in bed and do nothing. It felt good to get up and get in the kitchen if only for a short time to make these Easter eggs.

Thankfully, I woke up this morning feeling a bit better and am anxious to get back to work. Easter is such a wonderful time of year to make edible crafts and I feel so far behind. I hope to catch up soon.

To make the chicken legs, cut 3 inch long matchsticks out of large peeled carrots. Cut those matchsticks so that each end comes to a point.

Cut ¼ inch slices from a large peeled carrot. Press an "E" alphabet cutter into each carrot slice. Use a wooden skewer to help you remove the carrot from the cutter.Cut the edges of the "E" off so that your carrots look for like a flat "W" or a chicken foot.If you don't have an "E" cutter, you can hand cut your chick feet.

Poke a hole in the center of each foot using a wooden skewer. Poke a carrot stick into the hole, removing any carrot that pokes through the bottom of the foot.
