No. 7 ECU Hosts No. 21 NC State Tuesday Evening - East Carolina University Athletics (2024)

GREENVILLE, N.C. –No. 7 East Carolina closes out its homestand Tuesday night with a Top 25 showdown versus NC State from a sold-out Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

As always, Scott Rogers and Dr. Gary Overton will handle the radio broadcast on 94.3 The Game. The contest will also stream live via ESPN+ with Evan Budrovich and Mike Mullis on the call.

The Pirates went 4-0 last week with a wild and wacky 13-inning victory at William & Mary before returning home and sweeping Wichita State for the first time in series history. ECU stands at 31-8 overall which is the best 39-game start for the program since the 2004 squad rolled up a 33-6 mark on the way to 51 wins and an appearance in the Columbia Super Regional. With four American Athletic Conference series remaining in the regular season, East Carolina and UTSA are tied for first place with at 11-4.

ECU looks to extend its midweek winning streak to eight and complete the home-and-home sweep of the Wolfpack after downing NC State 12-4 back on April 2nd – The Pirates' first win in Raleigh since 2009. East Carolina is 20-2 at home in 2024 with sweeps of Rider, Columbia, UAB and Wichita State as well as wins over then No. 15 North Carolina and Purdue.

Carter Cunningham's .396 batting average paces an ECU offense that is hitting .307 collectively with 55 doubles, nine triples and 44 home runs. The senior first baseman tops the AAC in batting average and slugging percentage (.662) while Ryley Johnson leads the circuit in runs scored (47) and on base percentage (.491).

The Pirate pitching staff slots fifth nationally in earned run average (3.61) as the new week begins as East Carolina also ranks third in WHIP (1.18), fourth in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (6.99) and seven in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.04). Defensively, ECU is 24th in fielding percentage at .978.

About NC State
The Wolfpack (22-15) split four games last week, falling to Campbell 11-7 in 12 innings Tuesday in Raleigh before taking two of three from North Carolina in a home Atlantic Coast Conference series. NC State is hitting .279 as a team with 59 doubles, three triples and 57 home runs. Garrett Pennington boasts a squad-best .368 batting average and 15 home runs while Alec Makarewicz is hitting .349 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI. The Wolfpack pitching staff sports a 6.71 ERA with 325 strikeouts and 190 walks in 316.1 innings. NC State is 4-9 away from Doak Field at Dail Park this season.

NC State leads the all-time series with East Carolina by a 71-43 margin. The Pirates defeated the Wolfpack 13-9 in Greenville last season and have won four of the last six meetings at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
