Owner of community's first Jewish Deli plans to resume breakfast and lunch after Rosh Hashanah while looking for a new location.

DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Matzah Balls, which had been locked out of its space over a
landlord-tenant dispute, reopened briefly over the weekend serving street food to hungry Doylestown Arts Festival visitors.

“Saturday was fantastic. Over 300 people ordered our street food (hot pastrami, salami and corned beef sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks and Angus burgers) and enjoyed it on the patio or took it to eat while walking around the art fest,” said the eatery’s spokesperson Kevin Aniess. “Sunday was a washout, but out of the gloom came a little ray of sunshine that we got to donate all of our unused food to the emergency services personnel of Doylestown,” he said. “Thinking of our heroes every day and especially today, in memory of 9/11.”

After a crazy last few weeks that saw the opening of Doylestown’s first Jewish deli and then its sudden closure less than a week later after being locked out by its landlord, Aniess said he “truly saw the best of Doylestown” over the weekend.

“On behalf of Franco, Susana, myself, and our wonderful crew we want to sincerely thank you,” said Aniess. “We got to meet and talk to hundreds of members of our supportive community and I got to put faces to some of the people who have been following us on Facebook.

“What I personally saw was heartwarming from the lady who said she has been praying for us to the big burly Doylestown police officer that gave Franco a hug,” he wrote on the deli’s Facebook page.

Despite the temporary reprieve, the eatery continues to be locked in a legal battle with its landlord.

“We are - for now - back in and plan to resume breakfast and lunch to start right after Rosh Hashanah,” said Aniess. “In the meantime we are actively searching for a new location.”

Matzah Balls also announced plans for Rosh Hashanah dinner to be served at Fountainside Seafood & Grill on Route 611 in Horsham.

“It will be an excellent meal and every couple will receive a free $25 gift card to Matzah Balls,” said Aniess. “Plus we will still donate $5 for every adult to Last Chance Ranch. We are confident that this will be the best restaurant Rosh Hashanah dinner you have ever had. And by the way,
you don’t have to be Jewish to attend. Everyone is welcome,” said Aniess.

Master Chefs and brothers Franco Federico and Mario Federico will be preparing full course traditional Rosh Hashanah dinners on both the first and second nights (Sept. 25 and 26) with two seatings each night. It will feature homemade brisket of beef, half roasted chicken or grilled
salmon. The dinner also includes a bowl of its soon to be famous Chicken Matzah Ball Soup and all of the sides served family style.

“We want you to have a Rosh Hashanah dining experience that even grandma will give five stars. Oh, and don't forget to save room for the delicious Jewish apple cake or chocolate fudge cake,” said Aniess.

As an alternative, for those planning to eat their Rosh Hashanah dinner at home check out the a la carte or full course dinner to go. “Why spend all week cooking when Franco and Mario will do it for you?”

Matzah Balls is taking reservations up until Sept. 19 for the Rosh Hashanah dinner but reserve early. The menu and details can be found at Matzahballs.com.
