KENT, Ohio- The Kent State field hockey team (6-9, 4-2 MAC) won 3-1 against Longwood (3-14, 1-5 MAC) this afternoon.

In the first quarter, the Lancers took the lead early 1-0 after a penalty corner. The Flashes responded later in the quarter whenKatie Wuerstlescored to tie the game 1-1 from an assist byEmma Rolston.

Using the team's momentum,Eva Usozconverted a penalty corner in the second quarter, bringing Kent State up 2-1.
In the third quarter, Usoz recorded her second goal of the game during the Flashes eighth penalty corner.

Both teams were scoreless in the fourth quarter and the final resulted 3-1. Kent State led in corners (12-7) and shots (21-9).

App State 2, Louisville 1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –In the final road game of the 2023 season, the App State Mountaineers (12-4, 5-1 MAC) flew the flag over the No. 8 Louisville Cardinals (12-5, 2-3 ACC) in shootout fashion on Sunday. The win marks the highest ranked win in program history, the first win ever against a top-10 opponent and the first win over an ACC opponent since 1999.

With the shootout period tied at two goals apiece heading into App State's final attempt, freshmanFlorine Koopmancalmly addressed the ball and made her way into the circle where she slapped the ball past the Cardinal keeper and sent the App State faithful into a frenzy. Koopman's game-winning goal in the shootout gave App State its second consecutive shootout win.

It was an incredible defensive display put on by the Mountaineer defensive unit at Trager Stadium on Sunday, as they would keep Louisville to just one goal in regulation and stop all 15 Cardinal corner chances. Fifth-year goalkeeperAddie Clarksaved an impressive 12 shots in the game and held Louisville to just two goals in the shootout.

"Beating Louisville on their home turf on their senior day is a crazy feeling," senior defenderGrace Ballsaid. "We knew we had to come in and give it our all. We needed to slow them down and play together and that's what we did. It's a great feeling to come out on top."

Having already clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament with their win on Friday against Ball State, the Mountaineers and head coachEmily Dinsmorenow have 12 wins on the year. The 12 wins for Dinsmore in her first season at the helm ties Mountaineer legend Jan Watson's record for wins by an App State first-year head coach. Dinsmore's first chance to break that record will come on Friday at home against the Ohio Bobcats.

"All the credit goes to the girls for this win," Dinsmore said. "They fought to the very end and withstood corner after corner. I knew that if we could get to shootouts we would win this game. It's so exciting and I'm so happy for the group."

OXFORD, Ohio –Claudia Negrete Garciaplayed hero for the Miami University field hockey team on Sunday afternoon, scoring both goals, including the game-winner in double overtime to take a 2-1 victory over Michigan State University. This moves the RedHawks to 11-7 on the season (5-1 MAC). The Spartans drop to 3-11 overall.

On a penalty corner in the first few minutes of the game Negrete Garcia scored with assists fromMadison WorkmanandBerta Matato grab a 1-0 lead. This marked double-digit goals on the season for Negrete Garcia with 10. The RedHawks held this lead through the end of the first half to head into the second with a 1-0 lead. Through the first half the RedHawks only allowed the Spartans one shot.

During a penalty corner in the third with barely over a minute remaining the Spartans managed to tie the game at 1-1, which they held through the conclusion of the period. With 17 seconds remaining in regulation play,Isabelle Peresehad a game-saving stopduring a penalty corner to push the game into overtime.

Through the first overtime period Miami battled to keep the score tied, having been handed two yellow cards and being at uneven strength with the Spartans. The two teams were headed into a second overtime. On a long run from just before mid field to just inside the circle, Negrete Garcia scored the game winning goalwith just two-and-a-half minutes remaining in double overtime to grab the 2-1 win for the RedHawks.

Ball State 7, Queens 0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Ball State field hockey team ended its two-game weekend on a high note after a dominating 7-0 victory over Queens University (0-15) on Sunday afternoon at Trager Stadium. It was the Cardinals third shutout win of the season and marked the highest number of goals scored this year for BSU against an opponent.

With the win, the Cardinals improved to 7-9 on the season for the second time under second-year head coachCaitlin Walsh. Before the 2022 season the seven victories under Walsh hadn't been done by a Ball State field hockey program since 2016.

Leading the way for the Cardinals offensively wasMichaela GraneyandKerrianne McClayeach scoring two goal apiece whileFleur Knoperthad eight shot attempts and four shots on goal.Libby Krausturned in a season and career high in assists after dishing out three.

Defensively,Hannah Johnstonearned her seventh win on goal with three saves.
After a scoreless opening 15 minutes of play, McClay capitalized off a penalty corner with the help fromEmma HiltonandLibby Krausfor the first goal of the game.

About three minutes later, Hilton and Kraus found Graney off another penalty corner to give the Cardinals the 2-0 lead over the Royals heading into the contests 10-minute intermission.

McClay found the back of the cage for the second time at the 44:34 mark of the third quarter of play to give BSU the 3-0 advantage.

The Cardinals then tacked on four more goals in the final stanza from Graney, Knopert,Paloma Gomez Rengifo, andChristine Ditizioto seal one of Ball State's most successful offensive showings of the season.
