One of the most difficult parts of getting your loved ones the help they need with drug addiction is identifying the signs and symptoms of addiction and figuring out what exactly they are addicted to. Before you can figure out whether someone you know is addicted, you generally need to know what it is they are using so that you can figure out the unique signs and symptoms.

At Hillside Mission Recovery we believe in helping people facing addiction get the care they need to get clean and stay on the path to sobriety. As part of that, we believe it is important to educate people on how to identify different drugs, the signs, and symptoms of addiction, and how to get treatment for that addiction.

What Does a Xanax Pill Look Like?

This is the first question most people who aren’t sure if their loved one is addicted to Xanax or not ask, “what does a Xanax pill look like?” Like other pills, having a clear description will help identify the problem substance and how best to move forward with approaching your loved one to get the treatment they need.

Xanax, otherwise known as Alprazolam, can come in many different forms depending on the generic pill, name brand, and prescription strength.

The two most common forms of Xanax come as small oval-shaped pills that are usually blue. These are typically one milligram (1mg). The second type comes as long rectangular “bars” that are usually broken and taken in segments. Most often, when habitual users refer to Xanax they are referring to “Xanax bars” as they are typically a higher dosage and easier to share.

Xanax is highly addictive and is widely used because of its properties as a sedative that can calm the nerves and make people feel a sense of relaxation. Since it does not have the same effects as other drugs such as opioids and stimulants, Xanax abuse can be quite common without immediately being noticed.

Signs of a Xanax Addiction

To help determine whether a loved one is addicted to Xanax, we’re going to go over some of the usual signs of addiction, as well as some of the signs and symptoms specific to Xanax addiction.

Typical signs of addiction include changes in behavior from day-to-day, distancing from social circles, inattentiveness, a need for the substance in order to deal with normal life activities, mood swings, and engaging in negative behavior. The longer the addiction persists the more the person may become withdrawn from social circles and life activities. Typically, a need for the drug overrides other needs and may lead to self-destructive, illegal, and harmful behavior in order to obtain and use the drug.

Signs of a Xanax-specific addiction can include listlessness, drowsiness, slurred speech, and inattentiveness, side effects that are typical when a person is using a sedative. These signs can be tough to spot at first, but if a person seems to exhibit these symptoms continually, it can be a sign of Xanax addiction.

How to Get My Loved One Help With Their Xanax Addiction

If your loved one is addicted to Xanax, then the first thing to do is calmly and lovingly get them to agree to seek treatment. Once they’ve agreed to seek treatment, it’s time to find them the right addiction treatment facility to meet their needs.

At Hillside Mission Recovery we believe in providing a calm, comfortable, and well-rounded approach to treatment that centers on the individual. Most treatment plans will start with our medically supervised detoxification program.

Once detox is complete, we can begin the individual’s unique treatment plan to get them clean and help them get on the path to recovery.

Once treatment is complete, we provide a variety of aftercare services to make sure that recovery continues and so that the client has the tools they need to return to a normal life free of Xanax.
