Don't be like me.

This post is short and sweet today, but I wanted to share so you don't make the same mistake that I did.

My mom was known as the cinnamon roll baker on our street. She would even bake them FOR OTHER PEOPLE when they had company visiting!

So, when Jack brought a friend home for the weekend, I thought..."I'll make cinnamon rolls!" Just like my mom! I rolled the dough the night before and popped them in the fridge to rest, intending to let them rise on the counter for a bit the next morning.

Cinnamon Roll Recipes:

Long story short(ish)...and I'm not going to point any fingers here *cough*...but Mark is always up earlier than me, and I asked him to take the cinnamon rolls out of the refrigerator when he got up. He forgot. (To be fair, I should have just set my alarm, but I stayed up too late the night before.)

Here's what I did that made butter leak out of my cinnamon rolls.

Trying to speed up their rise out of the refrigerator, I set them on top of the stove while the oven preheated.

Big, big mistake. HUGE. The stove got too warm, and the butter in the rolls started leaking out!!! Nooooooo!

I moved them and let them continue to rise, then popped them into the oven and hoped for the best.

Were they still yummy? Yes. Were they as good as they should have been? No. The bottom of the rolls were sticky with the cooked, cinnamon sugar/butter mixture.

The truth is that no one noticed anything was amiss except me. Well, maybe my mom was looking down on the situation, knowing she'd taught me better. Ha.

Don't leave them on a warm, preheating stove for their second rise. The butter will melt and leak out of the filling.
